Quick note before we get into it: new rankings, features, and content are dropping in the next few days and weeks. I’m currently cleaning up my board — removing players who have confirmed they won’t be declaring — so expect an updated list soon. I’ll publish a Mock Draft soon enough and a Mock Draft Tool for everyone to use will be released soon too.
Yaxel Lendeborg is probably the most talked about player outside of the top 3 projected NBA picks. I know NBA Draft reddit loves to talk about him. He just capped off a stellar NCAA season with winning a championship with his Michigan teammates. He’s a winner and his development has been truly impressive. However, plenty of college stars have fizzled out in the NBA, so lets look at whether or not he is worth a lottery pick.
Having coached some JUCO I’m a big fan of JUCO players making that far. However, he’ll turn 24 before the next NBA season. It’s everybody’s reason for doubt, I’m not unique in thinking it. He could be a great asset to one of the teams with a late first round pick who want to compete soon.
His previous lack of recruiting attention doesn’t matter but for perspective on his developmental runway, he was in the same recruiting class and is about the same age as the following NBA players…
Cade Cunningham
Deni Avdija
Jalen Johnson
Jalen Williams
Anthony Edwards
Evan Mobley
Tyrese Maxey
Scottie Barnes
But lets look at this through the Draft Detective System instead of just my eye test.

The framework isn’t kind or unkind to Lendeborg — it’s just honest. He scores as a legitimate late bloomer. The grown man argument has some validity in his JUCO years, but it evaporates entirely by the time he’s winning Big Ten Player of the Year against the best conference in college basketball. You can’t manufacture those numbers against that competition at that level.
So where should he go?
That depends entirely on what a team needs. If you’re picking in the late first round and you need someone who can contribute immediately — rebound, defend, space the floor, make decisions — Lendeborg is exactly that player. His floor is higher than almost anyone in this draft. He is NBA-ready right now in a way that most 19 and 20 year old lottery picks simply are not.
But if you’re holding a top-5 pick, you’re paying for a decade. And at 24, Lendeborg’s prime window is already in view. That’s not a character flaw, it’s just math.
Currently he sits at 31st on my board. I expect him to move up a lot— several players ranked ahead of him may return to school or their international team, which could push him into lottery range organically. I’m not moving him until the transfer portal closes and declarations are confirmed. That’s how this system works. Speculation isn’t a ranking. He’s more valuable to a “win now” team and as always, fit matters.
More updated rankings and features are coming to Draft Detective in the next few days and weeks. Stay tuned.
